3 Li'l Monsters Designs released BREAKFAST IN BED on 11/1 as part of the Build-A-Kit at Stuff to Scrap (Be sure to see both parts!) - each part is just $1.74! WOW!

Papers: 20, including 6 solids (cardstock) and 14 patterned

Elements: 40 in *.png format

There is also a cute story at the STS store about Amy's husband's early (at 4 yrs old) aspirations to be a chef (he is one now!) Maybe this kit can provide you with a vehicle to memorialize some of your childhood stories too ... it was the perfect choice for my "blue cookie" pictures. Blake was spending the weekend with his Nana, my sister Sandy - he was only 14 months old and had very little experience with iced cookies. Aunt poki brought him some cookies with BLUE icing - Nana was smart enough to take his shirt off before he got a cookie, because she knew he would be wearing the blue icing before he was done, and he was!!!

3 Li'l Monsters has a great new kit SUNSHINE LEMONADE

Amy at 3 Li'l Monsters Designs released her newest kit SUNSHINE LEMONADE at both Digi Scraps Drive In and Stuff to Scrap on Monday. I've been busy working on layouts to promote the kit.

My first layout was created with a NON-THEME topic.

I really love these photos that I took at Zilker Gardens a few years ago ... the water lilies seemed to be the only thing fourishing in the heat of the Texas summer! This is the layout that I entered into the GO FOR THE PINKS (color challenge) at DSDI which Amy is hosting! You should go check out the challenges there.

I thought I really needed to do a THEMED layout as well, so I created this one for the Recipe Challenge at Stuff to Scrap which Amy is also hosting.

I didn't have any photos that would work here so I did an internet search for some stock photos and found these two great photos at inmagine.com and google.com. They "fit the bill" perfectly I think.

Amy has a FaceBook Fan exclusive Add-On for this kit on her FaceBook page ... I love the touches of cherry red here!

This morning I woke up thinking about this add-on, so the first thing I did was create a frame using one of the papers from the kit, and elements from this Add-On. It will be available shortly here on my blog as a freebie ... I have to go load them at 4shared. Both are *.png files with transparent opening to fit easily over your favorite summer celebration photos!

I originally made this frame for a layout of the Lilac Festival in Highland Park, Rochester NY for my vacation album. Each of the 9 blocks had a different variety (and color) of lilac in it. Then I reworked it with paper from Amy's kit YOU GIVE ME WINGS behind the frame, and a photo that Mike took of me the day before my cast was removed. The journaling on the tag reads:

"poki SURVIVED 8 weeks in a cast and created 62 layouts one handed!"

I challenged my friends over at DSDI to create one layout using only their NON-DOMINANT hand ... no takers yet! Not even a nibble ... Actually, I'm quite happy using my mouse with the left hand, and have not moved it back in the month since the cast has been gone!

There is a Daily Download which started today over at 3 Li'l Monsters Designs web page. It's a great birthday kit - and I for one, cannot have too many birthday kits! I've been making digital birthday cards for family and friends on FACEBOOK, and having papers and elements on hand has been terrific! I actually created an invitation to my BUNCO UN-BIRTHDAY party with this kit the other day.

I am now a member of the Creative Team for Amy at 3 Li'l Monsters Designs. I have followed Amy's work in the Stuff to Scrap Designer Survivor contest last year (she won!) and now at both Stuff to Scrap and Digi Scraps Drive In. I think I own almost her entire collection and I have loved working with it.

I will begin posting my CT work for her here - hopefully, I can do it tonight! (sometimes I have issues ...)

MY DEAR WATSON - This was the first kit I used for a CT assignment at DSDI

My next project for Amy was with WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD - I just love LIME GREEN and RED! I guess I was in a GREEN mood on the day I did this one ... the photos are from my wildflower portfolio 2010!

I used this kit again for my Rochester Vacation Album - now you will see some red! The photos are from the Dentzel Carousel at Ontario Beach Park in Rochester NY

I did a SPEED SCRAP in June with Amy over at Stuff to Scrap, and I used this great kit again:

STAND IN THE RAIN was the next kit that I worked with ... that's my great nephew Blake at the Silo Christmas Tree Farm Pumpkin Patch in 2009.

When DSDI was celebrating National Scrapbook Day in early May, Amy hosted a Quick Page exchange with STAND IN THE RAIN - the week after the Celebration, participants at DSDI voted in a poll and my QP won the prize ... a gift certificate to Persnickity Prints. I sent my Rochester vacation off to print last week and had the pages waiting for me when I returned home from Kansas!

Here's another layout I did with STAND IN THE RAIN for a challenge at DSDI in May

Amy's contribution to the Soda Shoppe Color Pop for May at DSDI was a kit called YOU GIVE ME WINGS: I love the blues and greens in this kit!

June brought FISH ARE FRIENDS to DSDI and STS - BLUES (my almost favorite color) and PEACH

Amy's latest kit at Stuff to Scrap is ALL DONE - it went live in the store last Friday night. I kept checking all day on Friday (at least 5 times) before I found it in the store ... and then I loaded my layout of Blake mowing the lawn (they started him early on chores at home!)

VINTAGE ROMANCE has just what you would expect in a romantic kit ... but I like to use kits in NON-TRADITIONAL/NON-THEME WAYS ... I have a couple of pages in my Rochester Vacation album using this kit!

I have a new layout ready to post for a kit that will be at Stuff to Scrap, but I can't post it here until Friday ... you will just have to come back to see it!

Jen C Designs has a WISH FOR IT WEDNESDAY on her FB page each week. In order to have a wish, you need to leave a comment in her WFIW post. Then she randomly chooses one lucky person each Wednesday and fulfills their wish ... and I was the lucky one last week, and got her kit entitled HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Blake wasn't too sure he wanted to turn 5 (his teacher told him that 5 year old's couldn't act silly - who says?) but I believe he had a great time at the Bouncy House in Kyle, on Feb 26, 2011. He turned an amazing 5 years old on March 3, 2011! Here's my layout:

I do have an excuse for not posting! On April 19, on my newly constructed SAFER front staircase, klutzy me managed to fall and break my arm! It was immobilized in a splint at Belton Urgent Care that evening, and I got my cast on Monday, April 25. I now can type with left hand + one finger on the right hand, which has definitely increased my speed, but not my accuracy --- mouse on the left is STRANGE! I will be posting again when I have acquired a little more accuracy with the mouse. An, with the begginning of May comes as whole new list of challenges at DSDI . Go check out my gallery there

I have been able to keep up with the Amazing Digi Scrap Race at DSISB. Fortunately, I had completed both of the challenges for last week, before I broke arm. I got 6.9 done on Easter Sunday and 6.10 is an intersection, which I contributed to, and my partner is completed. This is a new partner which I got last Tuesday, just before I broke my arm. She had surgery on her foot that same day, so we are both in casts! But still working!

My partner Mira and I had to do a combined layout for our ADSR 6.4 challenge. One partner provided photos and journaling, and the other completed the layout. I sent Mira some photos from our trip to the Outer Banks in 2009, and this is what she did with them:

I love the cool mix of greens in Bonnie's new kit called REFRESH ... It's available at the Digi Scrap Drive In store

Here is my layout created with photos taken 4.20.2010 - I saw my first Foxglove (the flower in the photos) blooming yesterday, not too far from the location where the photos were taken last year! It's amazing what Texas wildflowers can do, even with NO RAIN in months!

I really enjoyed working with the elements in Bonnie Blou Designs REFRESH! The only thing I added that was not part of the kit was the font (Segoe Print) for the title!

ANYTHING GOES from the Pink Ladies at DSDI

Part of my job as a Paper Shaker at DSDI is to create with the Collaborations each month done by the wonderful Pink Ladies over at DSDI. This month they have created a beautiful antique neutral kit called ANYTHING GOES! I immediately thought of the scan I had of my parents' wedding party ... I had scanned it several years ago to make a scrapbook for mom. I had color corrected it to make it Black and White, and I had to re-do it in order to antique it again, but I like the results!

I am at Rockin' R Retreat Center in Temple with my friends from The Heart of Texas Scrapbook Club! I arrived about 5 p.m. on Thursday, and have 4 layouts to my credit so far:

The "new girl" arrived

and she seems to be fitting in and "playing nice" with others! I won't have a chance to start the transfer of "knowledge" from DT to the "new girl" until Monday at the earliest. I am booked solid this weekend with craft show on Friday and Saturday, KTECH class on Friday night, and a photo shoot with Mike on Sunday ... down toward Houston to take wildflower photos (his idea, not mine - he has a new camera!)

The internet is up and running on NG but not much else ... didn't buy new software, just plan to load what I can from reinstall disks, and buy as needed!

It's a whole new adventure ... I've never been the first person to open a computer, until today. Mike set up 2 previous Desktop computers, and 2 notebook computers for me, but I got to drive this one for the first start up today! Fortunately for me, he did all the "wire stuff" ... I am not very mechanical, more artistic than mechanical. (For reference, see "Can an artist love an engineer?"

I've partnered with another Paper Shaker from DSDI, Mira from the Netherlands, and we will be scrapping the challenges for the next 6 1/2 weeks over at NDISB ... I just did a layout with a lovely new kit that is available at DSDI forum as the DAILY DOWNLOAD (each piece is left for only 24 hours so you have to hurry over every day) or you can go to the DSDI store, and buy the complete kit for only $3

One of the perks of being a Paper Shaker at DSDI is the opportunity to work with new product from the great designers over there... Jen C Designs is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I have to sometimes be really creative with the use of my photo portfolio - I don't do PEOPLE you know!

I do make some exceptions to that though ... I'm working on a Tribute album for my "cousin" Gaila who passed away in Feb 2011 ... Mom looked up the photos in her collection, and I provided them for the slide show presentation at the Memorial, but her "sister" and "dad" don't have a computer, so I promised them an album. This is my second page!

While participating in the Head {Cl} Heels Challenges at DSDI, I did the template challenge (template by Jen C Designs) with Daphadilly Art's MY BIG MOVE kit. Here is the preview of the kit:

The kit contains 11 paper, 4 patterned papers and 7 solid papers; It also contains 23 elements suitable for layouts about your home, or a move.

I immediately thought about the photos I had of my house. I've lived longer in this house now than anywhere else in my life ... been here over 20 years! (Next closest was my family's first home on Washington Street - I was there for 14 years!)

Head {CL}Over Heels has started! And so have I ... the Pink Ladies over at DSDI have some great challenges for us March 11 - 18. Go check them out.

Here are the rules for the challenges:

You'll find several challenges over the next week to inspire you to create some great pages while earning something in return.

Everyone is a winner in this event. The Pink Ladies have gotten together to create one HUGE collaboration all form the same color palette. The more challenges you do the bigger your kit gets!

There will be a store coupon awarded to anyone who completes 5 or more challenges.

In my role as PAPER SHAKER at DSDI forum, I pick two PINK LADIES (that's the designers at the DSDI store) to work with each month, plus I also work with the DSDI Collaboration each month. I am compensated for my effort with the kit I am promoting!

My first PINK LADY for March is Melly Scraps. I chose her kit THIS IS ME and was I ever amazed at what I saw when the kit arrived in my IN-BOX! WOW!

My thoughts went immediately to a scrapbook that has been "living in my head" (nothing on paper) for a long time. My project is called THIS IS TEXAS and here are the results, completed last night:

I love the bead scatter and the beaded brackets... just had to use them! The copper tile alpha is just TOO COOL and had to go into the layout also! I'm particularly fond of BLENDED PHOTOS (since I learned how to do it at the end of January!) so I blended in the photo of the gorgeous copper windmill on Wheat Rd in Belton. Mike and I have been back several times to photograph this windmill ... it is so TEXAS!!! The photo and copper tiles will probably end up on the cover of my THIS IS TEXAS book, if it ever come "outside my head"

If you have any ideas about photos that might help me show the ICONS of TEXAS just let me know .. share a comment on this post. I have quite a few ideas, and lots of photos already!

I need to do an online comparison for the same file saved in 4 different ways. It's just a test of some new techniques I'm trying!

MY ORIGINAL COMPRESSION TECHNIQUE:

COMPRESSION WITH JPEG OPTIMIZER

VERSION 3 - soften brush on font, JPEG OPTIMIZER ON FINISHED LAYOUT

MY Conclusions from this test:

1. I like the look of version 2 using new compression tecnique and PSP's JPEG OPTIMIZER to save.

2. Not sure I like the fuzzy look the font developed using the soften brush in version 3. It might be the size of the brush that I used. I will continue to experiment with this tool to clean up "jaggies" on Text.

3. The more I learn, the more I learn that there is SO MUCH more to learn! :>) or maybe it really :>( NOT SURE WHICH IS MY TRUE FEELINGS!

After several PM's between me and AmyJo at DSDI (she's the only person I know there that is working in PSP) I reset my anti-alias and rebuilt my text ONE MORE TIME on this layout. I have promised myself this is the last thing I am doing to this layout ... I hope (fingers crossed) that the issue is a little better than it was!

My participation prize

Laura from CW Picket & Co very graciously gave me a RAK the other night as a participation prize for a Speed Scrap she hosted ... a FREE kit, and I picked her new kit BRUSH-A BRUSH-A about going to the dentist ... even though I didn't have pictures at the Dentist's Office. I had to do a little creative thinking ... but I believe I put the kit to good use. Here is the preview of the kit:

When I saw the paper with the stars on it, I knew just what I wanted to do ... a PARADE! Belton is very proud of our 4th of July Parade. My picture shows the Belton High School Marching 100 (usually it's more than 100 members in the band, but they still call it the Marching 100) on Central Ave in Belton, TX on July 4, 2007.

I think my layout shows the versatility of the kit ... it's not just for the dentist, and tooth brushing pictures!

Since there is no little scout in my past, present or probably not my future either, I had to be very inventive with my layout. But I love the green papers and they complimented my landscape photo of a GREEN TUNNEL near Lake Belton really well (taken 4.26.2010)

Here is a layout I completed on Sunday, with a photo that I just dearly love: The photo is UNEDITED!!! It was so bright on the day we visited Zilker Gardens in May 2009, I did some light exposure compensation on the camera, and I was VERY IMPRESSED with the image of the rose! I've been waiting for the PERFECT way to show it off: I think I found it!

A Busy February at DSDI

Wow! What a busy month February has been - and exciting too! I joined the RAZZ TEAM over at DSDI ... my job, leaving comments on layout posts. I've done my best to make a comment on every layout that was posted over there. Along with my regular Forum posts, and my layouts too, I have posted over 700 times at DSDI during February! That's a WOW! (But, writing is not an issue for me ... right?)

Then, on Feb 22, I became one of 4 new PAPER SHAKERS at DSDI: Creative Team members ... my job, designing layouts with kits from DSDI store for promotional purposes! You've already seen one of my promotional layouts for Daphadilly Art. The kit is called ETERNAL and it debuted on Friday, February 25. It is currently on sale at DSDI for $4 for the bundle! You can find the bundle here and check the gallery here The Paper Shakers have done some beautiful work with ETERNAL already!

I have also worked with two other Designers in February! (I know, I had to work fast since February was almost over when I got the job!) Bonnie Blou Designs created a kit called COZY AND WARM, with the perfect color palette (AUTUMN COLORS) for so many of my recent photo ops! I did this layout for a Speed Scrap at DSDI hosted by the designer Bonnie Blou on February 13, 2011. During the course of an hour, Bonnie left prompts in the chat room at DSDI ... this was my finished project and I'm really proud of it. It shows lots of the papers and elements without too much clutter. I like to keep it simple and smart! Check out other layouts created for this Speed Scrap in the forum here. I don't think you will have to register in order to read the Forum, but you might want to in order to participate ... it is a GREAT bunch of girls from ALL OVER THE WORLD!!!

So do you recognize my house? This is an old photo, taken in May 2007. I was pleased to see my cat PJ in the yard ... I miss him!

Joelle at Daphadilly Art shared her beautiful new kit called ETERNAL with me yesterday so that I could play with it. When I saw the colors in the kit, I immediately thought of my photo shoot on 10.3.2010 behind Christ Church in Temple Tx (in the butterfly garden) ... the color palette of the kit was just perfect for those Monarch and Queen butterflies that hang out there in the Fall!

I've been gone from this blog but I've been so busy with layout design ... and I have exciting news. I am really pleased with all that I have learned while participating in this forum!

I have challenged myself to create AT LEAST 365 scrapbook layouts this year (I won't say one a day because you never know what might happen ... I might get tired and need a break!) I just posted a list at DigiScrapObsession of layouts completed thus far in 2011 - I am at 11 today on Jan 8. Since I am at Rockin' R I still have a few hours to get more done before I head home at 5:00 p.m. tomorrow!

My house is ... I took these pictures on Dec 22 after I got the last of the presents wrapped. Right after this picture was taken I packed them all up in boxes and bags to take to Mom's house and my room looked bare again!

I always hate to "undecorate" so I think I will leave my stuff out for a few more days!

I wasn't able to get a picture of the entire family on Christmas Eve. Gaby (who is only 6 months old) seemed to think it was nap time right after we opened our presents - can't imagine why!

Mike has loaded the pictures he took at Mom's on Christmas Eve (I haven't!!!) so I used 3 of his pictures to do a SPEED SCRAP at Ginger Scraps on Monday night.

My nephew Bryan will be 38 on Sunday, and he is a new daddy this year!!! I made him a birthday card (actually a 12 x 12 scrapbook page) which I will post on my Facebook page a little closer to time for his birthday! I used Mad Genius Designs "Mister" which I bought last weekend at the iNDSD sale!

The photo was taken by poki on July 9 at Great Grandma's house. Gaby was just 15 days old!

One of my favorite kits that I have collected is called Beach Glass by Ginger Scraps. I was looking at old links and discovered I still had a link to the Ginger Scraps Forum, although I hadn't been there in a long time.

I discovered that there had been a re-work done of Beach Glass, so I had to have it. Then I started exploring the Forum, found the challenges ... and I'm hooked on another forum. All these challenges are a great learning experience ... I'm really stretching myself.

My DSDI Challenges

As it turns out, it is easier to load my challenges directly from the Forum, so here goes ...

OCTOBER CHALLENGES:

Rockin' Around the Clock - this is a progressive scrap, over a series of days we get all the instructions (I just wait til I have them all to start)
1. Choose 6 papers... at least 3 patterned papers, and at least one solid paper. Stack one patterned paper and one solid paper. Make the solid paper smaller, so that the patterned paper makes a border around the page. The remaining papers will be used in a later step.
2. Make 2 circles and 3 paper strips with the various other papers. and arrange them in the center of your page in the top half of the page.
3. Choose three pictures and arrange them in a row on top of the paper strips and circles, leaving some of the paper showing under the photos.
4. Add journaling to to the bottom half of the page, filling up at least half of the area below the photos.
5. Add Title using an Alpha, close to the photos.
6. Add Embellishments and shadows, and upload to RAC Gallery… Be sure and post back here for your points!

I see that I haven't updated here in a long time. I'm going to try to be more diligent. The first thing I'm going to prepare for posting here is my complete Arkansas album in order. I have my printed copy ... from Persnickity Prints If you are looking for a PROFESSIONAL scrapbook page printer, you won't beat this site for quality, speed, or price! Check them out! I did and I love it! My albums from now on will be printed at Persnickity Prints!

After I finish posting my Arkansas album, my next step will be to catch up on all the challenge layouts I've been doing. If you Facebook, you can see them there at poki's Facebook page

To make sure you really know that I have been doing something lately, here is the most recent page I made for a challenge at DSDI That's a new digi forum I joined the last week of October. I have really been inspired by the challenges they post - they have 18, sometimes more, challenges each month, lots of "eye candy" inspiration if you digi! I've really enjoyed the challenges I've done (13 in October, 3 so far in November) In case you haven't noticed, I love my retirement!

My NW Arkansas Vacation album

I finished my NW Arkansas vacation album today, tweeked all the layouts and uploaded them to Persnickity Prints.

Vacation in NW Arkansas

We're in Rogers, Arkansas, visiting with relatives. My sister and I took a walk in the neighborhood yesterday afternoon. We decided to walk down to the golf course. Down was nice, UP was a totally different story. We contemplated calling the house to ask them to come pick us up. But decided that would leave us open to just too much teasing ... so we toughed it out. I got some great close up pictures of flowers growing on the edge of the woods. Didn't go into the woods since it is loaded with poison ivy!!!

I have been having fun today - much more fun than cleaning house!!!! (I did sweep the bathroom and kitchen, wash the dishes and vacuum the living room in preparation for class tonight, but there are more fun things to do!)

My friend Pat asked if other shapes could be used as clipping mask. So ... to answer her question, I had to check it out. The results: TICKLED PINK with my great niece Gaby!

I had often seen freebies with text attached to the top, and they were supposed to clip the photo you layered them over. But until today, I had not been successful - but now that is a different story.

It may be a good thing that my notebook computer, "greenie" is going with me next week on vacation. Separation anxiety might be too much for me .... or maybe not!

Working on Christmas projects too

I spent several hours last night creating "Quick Pages" (that's a misnomer, since they are not QUICK to make, just quick to USE!) which will be bookplates inside the books we are giving the Clark children for Christmas. I made a bookplate for Blake's Christmas present last year, using his picture in it, and he was thrilled with it. He took it to school to show his friends that HE was in the book! LOL! I hope the Clark children like it too!

I used two kits - A Little Bit of Christmas and Country Christmas to create the bookplates. Here they are without the pictures. The pictures will be added as a separate layer behind the frame. I didn't want to load them with the children's pictures in them, just for privacy purposes.

My "dream" project

I've been wanting to create a strip layout of this photo of Turquoise Lake and Mt. Elbert for a long time. I had seen a layout done by someone a long time ago, and just didn't want to cut and paste an actual photo this way. I learned a trip last month to create transparency around an image, and I "dreamed up" that you could use the Pre-Set shapes in PSP X2.1 to create a clipping mask. I had to get right up and come try it this morning. And AMAZINGLY my idea worked. It wasn't simple. I drew rectangles on 5 different layers and merged them. Split the RGB channels to find the darkest one - BLUE, as usual. Converted to negative image and layered it over the photo. The time that it took - about an hour - was probably just because I'm a newbie!!! I LOVE THE RESULTS - it was worth the hour!
