Completed 4 more pages

I was able to get back to my scrapbook for a while tonight - and I completed 4 more pages. (It is now Wednesday of our second week)

When we were in Buxton on Sunday, May 10, we were looking on the map program in "greenie" (the computer, for those who didn't know she had a name!) and found this nice little road that led down to the Sound where we could watch the sunset. We were amazed when we easily found the road while driving through Buxton. We quickly turned down the road, arrived at the PERFECT PHOTO OP - only to find ourselves rousted by the local deputy! What we had failed to do was see and heed the NO TRESPASSING SIGN at the intersection. And we almost got arrested for these pictures ... LOL... actually, the deputy was very nice, and just asked us to leave (the abandoned restaurant at the end of the road had been the victim of lots of vandalism, but with the camera equipment hanging around our necks, he knew that vandalism was not our goal that day!)

Jockey's Ridge State Park is home to the largest permanent sand dune on the East Coast. The prevailing winds in the OBX make Jockey's Ridge an ideal location for hang gliding. Mike got a great series of photos of a young woman (early 20's maybe) taking one of her first solo flights down the face of the dune!

Six more pages done today

I was able to work this afternoon on my scrapbook, and I got 6 more pages done. It is now Wednesday of the second week of our vacation.

The first two pages are in Buxton Woods, a hiking trail about a 1/4 mile from Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. It is amazing that all the trees could survive on such a windswept point!

The next two layouts feature stops along our way heading north toward Nags Head on Tuesday, May 12.

Canadian Hole has the best winds anywhere on the East Coast for Windsurfing - apparently enthusiasts come from all over to "surf" with their kites at this spot!

My last two projects for today were pictures from the Elizabethan Gardens on Roanoke Island. Unfortunately we caught the gardens in between Spring blooms, azaleas and rhododendrons were gone, not much was blooming. But we did see some amazing oak trees, very tall and twisted by the wind. They told us at the entrance that the gazebo on the property is thought to be very near the location of the original colony on Roanoke, where the first English baby - Virginia Dare - was born. The colony disappeared completely while the Governor of the colony was away to England, and the settlers were never found. (It is speculated that they were taken in my some Indians near Buxton, but that's only speculation!)

19 pages completed

and I'm into the second week. One more week of pictures to go!

I have had a busy day ...

I was expecting to be gone from home today - to a crop at the Lone Star Retreat Center in Georgetown. I spent all day yesterday getting prepared so I would have enough projects to get me through 2 days of cropping. When I woke up this morning and heard the rain, I knew this would not be a good day to get out. I emailed Karmen that I wasn't coming - and heard back that she had cancelled. I get to go there tomorrow though! Yeah!!! I still have plenty to do.

Since I had UNEXPECTED TIME AT HOME, I spent it working on my vacation scrapbook. Here are four more pages I did today ... have to get some ink refills to continue printing.

Vacation Scrapbook has been started ...

I had some time today to work on some pages for my vacation scrapbook - I've been playing around with some things, but wasn't excited about what I was doing. Today, I really like my output! Some of the photos are mine, some are Mike's - we don't always get the same pictures.

I took a little quiz ...

and found out that "I am a Canna." That means: "You stand up for what you believe in, even if it gets in the way of what other people think. You are proud of yourself and your accomplishments and you enjoy letting people know that." (I really do think that sounds like me!)

Pumpkin Patch book

I decided I wanted to make a mini book (6 x 6, I think) of our visit to the pumpkin patch on October 17, so I did another layout with the same picture of Blake sitting in the pumpkins! If all goes well, I will have 3 copies of the book done by Thanksgiving ... yeah, right! (smile)
